Jeff's opinion (might not be worth two cents - BUT it is my page) :)

Update 11/15/97 - I had three different people email me this week asking me to come to their Hot Wheel pages and click on this link or play this game. In the past, I just ignored this and went on, but I have to wonder if this is a look at the future. I hope not. A web site should not have to be subsidized by asking people to visit their sponser. That is television! I visit sites to find information, not to make the webmasters money. A website does not cost (in dollars, anyway) much to maintain. It takes time and effort. I do sell items on my site, but I provide information as well. I wonder how many people would return to a site on a regular basis if they had to wade through a bunch of ads to find anything worth while. I know I wouldn't, but I could be wrong (but I really hope that I am not).

Update (9/12) - Changing addresses is the best way to stop junk email. I haven't received any at this address yet, but I am sure it will come again. Six months ago, I claimed that it had virtually stopped, but it never did stop completely and was gradually getting worse and worse. I just didn't mention it. Let me know if there is a way!

Update (3/7) - It worked! Putting up this page virtually stopped the flow of junk email. Yeah!

Original message posted 2/15/97 - I have been bombarded recently by what I call "junk email". I don't know about what everyone else gets everyday, but I average 3 emails a day that are unwanted advertisements from various sources. One letter may be from a computer company telling me about special prices on Model Super Gadget XX (those are the easiest to delete) and the next is from someone that wants to sell me Hot Wheels for huge mark ups. For example, I had at least 15 "officers" or their girfriends, wives or brothers from LA wanting to sell me the LAPD Limited Edition car. I was told EVERY time that the people had no idea how much the cars were worth and they wanted me to make them an offer. When I made them give me a price, not one car was offered for less than $40 each. These "scoundrels" had to get my email address from my website after doing a Yahoo! (or other) search for Hot Wheels. To me this is similiar to spamming on the newsgroups, especially those who make a huge list of web site emails (the worst one had over twenty names of other people that have diecast related websites) and do them all at once.

I should point out that I do not mind answering questions about Hot Wheels. (I don't mind discussing trades or deals either! :-) ) Of course, I do get behind once in awhile... I am just asking those who ONLY want to SELL me something that I did not ask for to pass my email address by (unless it is a redline collection)! I would like to know from you if my case is an isolated problem or is it happening to you as well????
